A Brief Summary of This Position:

Under the direction of the General Manager, with a reporting matrix to the Coatings Division, HR Business Partner, this position is accountable for the development, recommendation, implementation and administration of programs, systems and services which maximize the division and the HR potential for both the Miami and Tampa Coatings Facilities.  This position is also responsible to back-up the Office Manager/Accountant in daily invoicing responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Reports to the Miami Galvanizing, General Manager with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Tampa Galvanizing, General Manager and has a direct working relationship with the Tampa, FL Office Manager/Accountant and Coatings division HR team
  • Partners with the Office Manager/Accountant to provide appropriate HR coverage for Tampa, while also providing site accounting support
    • Assist with customer invoicing and accounts receivables
    • Assist with month-end paperwork and reports
  • Assists with staffing including full-cycle recruiting, performing new hire orientation, E-Verify compliance, new employee training, performance management and employee development planning
  • Prepare and implement Miami and Tampa site Affirmative Action Plans. Ensure that all outreach and job postings comply and support the sites’ AAP plans
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry into HRIS system, time keeping system and other related HR technologies
  • Maintains personnel files and keeps records of personnel transactions such as hires, promotion, transfers, performance reviews, corrective actions, terminations, and employee statistics for both internal and external compliance reporting
  • Assists sites’ leadership teams in documenting employee discipline issues and participate in employee counseling sessions.  Works with Regional HR Manager to determine appropriate level of discipline and assists in relaying recommendations to sites’ leadership teams
  • Notifies all managers of performance evaluations and tracks all completed reviews to ensure evaluations are given in a timely manager
  • Assists employees with benefit  related open enrollment process
  • Provide employees the appropriate information to file a FMLA or STD claim with The Hartford, as applicable.  In addition, this position will work with the employee and management to ensure that all reasonable accommodation requests are handled appropriately and that the interactive process for return-to-work situations is followed and documented. 
  • Partners with EHS to ensure that all post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and return-to-work drug testing policy is being followed and documented
  • Utilize legal counsel to respond to agency audit request, complaint investigation/resolution measures, unemployment claims & appeals (OSHA, EEC, DOL, OFCCP, DFEH, etc.)
  • Must keep up to date and have general understanding of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting the human resources function

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Champion HR-related initiatives and notifies employees of new company policies and procedures. Updates site handbook and site wage scale as needed
  • Conduct new employee orientation to foster a positive attitude toward the company and to set the employee up with others who will assist in his/her on-boarding
  • Conduct enrollment sessions for benefits programs such as life, health, dental, disability insurances, stock purchase, and VERSP (Valmont Employee Retirement Savings Plan) and assist annually in open enrollment communication meetings regarding these benefits. Informs employees of other benefits including, but not limited to, vacation, leave of absence and the Employee Assistance Program
  • Serve as a backup resource for approving and amending non-exempt employee timecards for payroll purposes
  • Serves as back up for Office Manager/Accountant in periods of absence
  • Maintains job descriptions for use in job evaluations, employment placement, performance evaluations, and reasonable accommodations

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Preferred Bachelors with 3+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 5+ years relevant experience or 7+ years of relevant experience
  • The ability to travel domestically up to 10% of the time
  • The ability to work in a production/manufacturing environment
  • The ability to occasionally work outside of normal business hours to support operational needs
  • Working knowledge of HR regulatory compliance.
  • Must have a strong customer service orientation and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Working knowledge of the basic HR functions:  Recruiting, Compensation, Benefits, Employee Relations, Regulatory Compliance, Performance Management

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Master’s Degree
  • Previous experience with ADP, Workday or other HRIS Systems
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification
  • Basic accounting experience
