A Brief Summary of This Position:

This is an individual contributor position responsible for completing highly skilled and technical work in the areas of machining, CNC programming, CAD/CAM development, and general fabrication that includes welding. This position coordinates directly with operations to ensure part and process programs have been developed in advance and ready to run production parts when they come up in the schedule. Additionally, this role will work closely on the implementation of capital investment projects which requires investigating problems and requirements of projects, and developing plans for solutions in line with economic, personnel, and environmental considerations while working in conjunction with engineering, operations, and front-line personnel.

Essential Functions:

• Perform CAD/CAM modeling and programming for production parts on CNC equipment.
• Assist in the development and refinement of manufacturing processes with a focus on machining, metal forming and welding.
• Support lean manufacturing initiatives to reduce waste and increase productivity.
• Support capital investment projects as an active team member with a focus on front-line processes and machine operations
• Utilize lean manufacturing and quality principles to reduce waste, increase productivity and eliminate defects.
• Document procedures to ensure adoption of best practices between departments.
• Seek cost saving opportunities through increased productivity, reduced rework and overall quality improvements.
• Support proposals for new equipment and tooling to improve quality, productivity, and safety.
• Support manufacturing engineering project management and leadership.
• Support and/or lead investigations to determine root cause and implement corrective actions.
• Other duties/responsibilities as required and/or assigned.

Other Important Details about the Role:

• Participate in Kaizen events and other continuous improvement projects to optimize production, facilities layout, inventory control, safety, and quality.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

• Associate degree in machining and/or a similar discipline OR working toward completing a similar degree OR three (3) to five (5) years working in a machining related field.
• CAD/CAM proficiency i.e. MasterCAM, GibbsCAM, Solidworks, Inventor or similar.
• Experience with FANUC and/or Siemens CNC controls.
• Experience machining different materials but specifically aluminum alloys.
• Experience programming and operating CNC machining equipment.
• Strong working knowledge of quality and lean principles, methodologies, and tools.
• Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
• A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

• Five (5) to ten (10) years relevant experience.
• Metal forming and/or welding experience, specifically aluminum alloys
• CAD/CAM certification
• Experience working with SPC programs
• Functional understanding of manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, heat treating, metal forming, etc.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher and Outlook.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to persuade others to change and adapt to new processes.
• Must be able to demonstrate initiative and self-direction in planning, organizing, documenting, and solving problems with proven ability to lead cross-functional projects.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in a manufacturing plant environment or an office setting and the incumbent needs to be able to move about the office, shipping area and all areas of the plant which are producing product for the company. There is some exposure to work conditions such as dust, dirt, heat, fumes, and cold as well as noise levels above 80 decibels. Work conditions vary throughout the week depending on the area of the plant the Manufacturing Technician is assigned to work in. There will be visits to both indoor and outdoor locations during all seasons of the year. The work environment can be fast-paced and demanding at times.

Some of the tasks are physical and the Manufacturing Technician must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. although the most frequent amount of weight lifted is 20 lbs. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel, as well as balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
