A Brief Summary of This Position:

This individual contributor position creates drawings and bill of material to support design projects. You will ensure completion of drawing and bill of material changes as requested by Engineering Change Request. The position of Design Technician carries with it the responsibility of helping the team meet its goals as outlined by the Product Managers and Design Engineers. In this role, you must work with people in all departments to maintain amiable and profitable relationships in inter-departmental communication. You must know the design process and understand the goals of the team so they can deal with possible problems before they happen.

You will have knowledge of departmental and company goals, procedures, and the product lines represented. Deviations from these shall be minimal and only when beneficial to the department, division and company.

You will be important to the results of the department and the division. You are allowed to establish work routines and schedules, within company policies, to maintain efficient work flow. You may help develop revisions to standard product designs, drafting procedures to improve the department and the division.

How you will contribute:

  • Create new drawings and bills of material to support new project designs.
  • Create detailed electrical drawings and schematics illustrating components and connections.
  • Determine changes, corrections and requirements to meet project demands.
  • Conduct research of parts and assemblies to complete projects and identify issues before they occur.
  • Investigate and procure data required to develop a design.
  • Help develop design of our products as directed by Electrical and Mechanical Design Engineers.
  • Make design layouts as directed by Design Engineers and to complete all drawings and bill of materials to support the design.
  • Make drafting changes based on Engineering Change Request.
  • Provide technical or drafting support of any department, for any project which will enhance product or company interest.
  • Improve personal technical competence to participate in using the latest technology.

What it takes:

  • High School diploma and 4+ years of relevant work/educational experience OR an Associate's Degree
  • Proficiency in Auto CAD, 2D design and drafting software
  • Experience using 3D modeling software (Creo, Inventor, or SolidWorks)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic knowledge of electrical layouts/components
  • Working knowledge of electrical schematics and wiring diagrams

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess:

  • Five (5) years of experience in a mechanical drafting or design tech position
  • Prior project management experience
  • Experience with Creo or Pro/E 3D design software
  • Experience with CAD and data management programs
  • An electrical or mechanical background

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. You are required to sit for extended periods of time, and talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. You are frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with multiple files and forms and while working on the computer. You are occasionally required to move about the office. You must use proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. You must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
