A Brief Summary of This Position

This is an individual contributor role who assists the Brake Press Operator in the following operations: set-up brake, load sheet on conveyor, layout and prep sheet, move sheet of raw steel into brake, bend sheet, remove from brake, tack and secure two-piece shafts. Operator works with helpers. Operates overhead crane, plate heater, winch.  Fills in for operator on a limited basis once competence levels are met. Maintain equipment for assembly of one piece poles; bolt pads, nylon straps, etc.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare, load, and move metal sheet onto the conveyor of the brake press
  • Bend metal sheet using the brake press
  • Inspect each product once bent to ensure that the bend was correct
  • Send metal sheet to seaming operation after brake press procedures
  • Recognize lamination and material defects and notify quality assurance or supervisor
  • Act as Brake Press Operator back-up once trained to do so
  • Make decisions affecting inventory and stored product locations

Important Details about the Role

  • Read and decipher blueprints and flat sheets correctly
  • Use and read both regular and Outside Diameter (OD) tape measures accurately
  • Make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery
  • Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment
  • Must have an acceptable attendance and prior employment record
  • Operate the basic functions of a personal computer
  • This position reports into Production Supervisor

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • No Degree Required
  • One (1) year production experience
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, although most frequent lift is up to 20 pounds
  • Capable of performing simple math, fractions and fraction to decimal conversions
  • Ability to become Valmont trained and certified in the operation of a forklift
  • High awareness for safety at all times
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required in the production facility
  • Read blueprints and specifications

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • One (1) year of previous experience using a brake press
  • One (1) year of previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • Knowledge of basic programming and set-up of PLC controlled machinery
  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
  • Close attention to detail and follow work instructions
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Safety through excellent safety practices and behaviors by conforming to all Valmont safety policies and procedures
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
