A Brief Summary of This Position:

This individual contributor position is responsible for the creation of drawings and bill of material to support design projects. This person will ensure completion of drawing and bill of material changes as requested by Engineering Change Request. The position of Design Technician carries with it the responsibility of helping the team meet its goals as outlined by the Product Managers.  A person in this position must know the design process and understand the goals of the team so they can deal with possible problems before they happen. 


Essential Functions:

  • This position reports to Supervisor- Mechanical Design Engineer
  • Responsible for creating new drawings and bills of material to support new project designs
  • Responsible for making changes to current production drawings and bills of material                                      
  • Responsible for advancing personal technical competence in order to participate in utilizing the latest technology        
  • Acceptable performance and attendance                                                           

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Responsible for making design layouts as directed by Design Engineers and to complete all drawings and bill of materials to support the design. 
  • Accountable for making drafting changes based on Engineering Change Request. 
  • Requires a high attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the material, techniques and processes used within the irrigation industry
  • Demonstrates good judgment and decision making skills
  • Utilizes deductive reasoning ability to formulate answers to specific questions that make sense
  • Works well in a team environment

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • High School diploma and 4+ years of work/educational experience in a mechanical drafting or design tech position or Associates Degree
  • The ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English
  • Proficiency in Auto CAD, 2D design and drafting software
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software )
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Basic  knowledge of electrical layouts

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Design Technology, Drafting Technology, Mechanical Design Technology or Structural Design
  • Five (5) years of experience in a mechanical drafting or design tech position
  • Strong project management skills
  • Experience with Creo or Pro/E 3D design software
  • Experience with CAD and data management programs
  • The ability to work well in team environment
  • An electrical or mechanical background

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:


Work is typically performed in an office setting.  The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings.  Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time.  No travel requirements for this position.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer.  The employee is occasionally required to move about the office.  Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
