How you will contribute

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Lead Person position in the Kit Building department. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will, while working under the direct supervision of the Production Supervisor,direct all activities related to the coordination, organization, and controlling of component parts, raw material, and purchased material for manufacturing processes and shipping hardware.

Additionally, you will….

  • Be responsible for insuring employees check equipment, perform daily preventative maintenance and report any unsafe conditions to Maintenance/Supervisor
  • Be responsible for overseeing and delegating daily task to Kit Building personnel and material handlers
  • Be able to use the company IFS computer system to complete job duties (issue material, monitor inventories, completing orders)
  • Supervise employee duties to insure inventory is relieved properly with transactions such as staging, issuing, transferring , and receiving
  • Be responsible for keeping accurate inventories
  • Be responsible for cycle counts in Kit Building locations
  • Ensure all transaction registers and receiving paperwork are turned in to inventory control clerk/accounting 
  • Communicate with the QA department as necessary to ensure parts meet all required specifications.
  • Generate and communicate hardware shortages to production departments and purchasing for order fulfillment.
  • Ensure housekeeping is maintained in area
  • Monitor the handling of rejects, packing list, packets and pick-lists to insure accuracy and prompt delivery of product to designated areas
  • Operate overhead crane, forklift, magnetic crane, straddle truck and shag truck as needed
  • Assist Kit Building personnel as needed to complete hardware packaging as needed
  • Complete hardware inspections to assure accuracy
  • Maintain inventory of all packing materials needed within the kit building.
  • Understand and lead lean continuous improvement efforts within the department
  • Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job.
  • Make management aware of any training needs you have.  Consult your management immediately if you are being asked to perform work for which you are not trained and/or are not comfortable doing because of potential safety or risk implications.

What it takes

Required Qualifications

  • Become a certified forklift operator.
  • Become proficient in operating a straddle truck
  • Must complete Valmont overhead crane training
  • Ability to perform basic math: addition, subtraction, decimals and fractions
  • 1-2 years of supervisory or management experience
  • 1-2 years experience working in a warehouse environment
  • The ability to work overtime to support department requirements


Highly qualified candidates will also possess:


  • High School Diploma
  • Experience using Valmont’s IFS & Discover computer system
  • Experience reading ship papers to identify product needed for loading
  • Experience performing inventory cycle counts and correcting discrepancies
  • Certified forklift operator
  • Certified overhead crane operator
  • Certified straddle truck operator
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • 2+ years of supervisory or management experience
  • Training in Lean Manufacturing processes
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
