How you will contribute

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Maintenance C position at

Calwest Galvanizing, Long Beach California in the Global Coatings Division.  We are looking for a highly

driven individual that will assist the Maintenance 1st and 2nd class technicians. High School Diploma, 3-5 years of experience.  Additionally, you will…

  • Perform highly skilled and technical work in the areas of installation, programming, maintenance, and repairs to Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) software and equipment.
  • Perform industrial electrical work to repair or maintain company equipment
  • Move hazardous waste drums from still room to the hazardous waste storage area
  • Install and configure new equipment as well as dismantle and replace defective or old parts and machines
  • Plan and manage the repair and maintenance of all equipment and buildings
  • Adjust necessary equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation
  • Must be able to perform the Maintenance Helper duties below:
  • Must have general mechanical abilities with emphasis on diaphragm pump operation and plumbing
  • Operate and manage waste treatment facility (Training provided by Calwest)
  • Manage chemical wet process tanks (Training provided by Calwest)
  • Ability to repair, maintain or replace torch outfits, hand tool equipment, lighting systems, pumps and pipe systems
  • Working knowledge of power tools and hand tools
  • Disassembles machines, repairs and replaces broken parts
  • Assist with repairs and maintenance of all equipment and buildings
  • Adjust necessary equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation
  • Maintain a clean and hazard free work environment to ensure department safety
  • With guidance, interprets blueprints, works from sketches or verbal instructions
  • Performs minor repairs on all types of forklifts and keeps in operating condition
  • Contributes to the design and fabrication of production fixtures and racks
  • Be an active participant in department safety; exhibit excellent safety practices and behaviors and follows the intended purposes of Valmont safety policies and procedures

What it takes

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Three to five years of previous experience in an Industrial Maintenance position
  • Learn to read Blue prints , schematics, set up instructions, and general mathematics applications
  • The ability to work in damp high temperature conditions
  • The ability to lift up to 50lbs on occasion with some repetitive lifting
  • Must be able to work safely at elevated heights
  • In depth knowledge of industrial control software and PLC software/controllers
  • A working knowledge of pneumatic, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • The ability to demonstrate mechanical/basic electrical knowledge through testing
  • Significant electrical knowledge of 480/220 3-phase and 110 volt
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • The ability to climb and work from ladders, man lifts, bridge cranes, and roofs in excess of 80 ft.
  • The ability to pay close attention to detail and follow work instructions 
  • Two years of previous experience operating hand and/or power tools
  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Highly qualified candidates will also possess:

  • An Associate’s or Technical degree in Industrial Maintenance or related field
  • Six years of previous experience in an Industrial Maintenance position
  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
  • A working knowledge of metallurgy for fabrication and repair of metal structures/components
