A Brief Summary of This Position

The Market Research Intern is responsible for providing support and assistance within the Marketing Department. The primary responsibilities of the role include marketing/sales analysis, including surveying customer preferences and analyzing statistical data in order to support the business units during their decision-making process regarding forecasting, product designs, prices and promotions. The successful market researcher will be able to autonomously analyze qualitative data, trends, strategies and competition aiming at increasing competitiveness and responding to changes in market conditions. This role will be versatile reaching across skills needed in marketing and business. Being driven, productive, eager to learn/improve, self-motivated, innovative solution creator, team player and detail oriented are qualities necessary for success. Essential Functions:

  • This position reports directly to the Vice President of Global Marketing
  • Ability to travel to Company location in Valley, Nebraska as needed
  • Detail oriented with solid organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to interpret large amounts of data and to multi-task
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation skills to clearly and concisely present information to management

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Ability to work independently to distill and compile relevant data sets
  • Prepare executive level summaries on data and market trends
  • Collect data on consumers, competitors and market place and consolidate information into actionable items, reports and presentations
  • Understand business objectives and design surveys to discover prospective customers’ preferences
  • Analyze market trends and economic indicators to develop market indices that predict/drive our business
  • Compile and analyze statistical data using modern and traditional methods to collect it
  • Perform valid and reliable market research SWOT analysis
  • Interpret data, formulate reports and make recommendations
  • Use purchased, organic and online market research and catalogue findings to build searchable databases
  • Provide competitive analysis on various companies’ market offerings, identify market trends, pricing/business models, sales and methods of operation

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Junior or Senior standing in college, or MBA student, pursuing a degree in Business administration, marketing, statistics, economics, accounting or related field
  • Knowledge of Excel as well as SQL
  • Excellent research and communication skills (including presentations)
  • Experience in research
  • Computer skills:  Microsoft office suite as well as SQL or other database programming
  • Strong statistical application and mathematical skills
  • Excellent knowledge of statistical software packages, databases and MS Office
  • Familiarity with CRM programs
  • Adequate knowledge of data collection methods (polls, focus groups, surveys etc.)
  • Working knowledge of data warehousing, modelling and mining
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting.  The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings.    Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time.  No travel requirements for this position.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer.  The employee is occasionally required to move about the office.  Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
