A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont is actively seeking a results-driven communications professional with a proven track record in leading, creating and executing comprehensive corporate communication strategies. As the Director of Corporate Communications, you will be instrumental in shaping and maintaining Valmont’s corporate image and reputation. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, you will lead the development and execution of communication strategies to enhance our brand, convey key messages, and strengthen stakeholder relationships. We are looking for a candidate with exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills, backed by a demonstrated track record, to drive our corporate communication initiatives on a global scale.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement a robust corporate communication strategy across multiple channels aligned with the company's overall goals, objectives and values, collaborating closely with C-level executives and others within the organization.
  • Serve as the company spokesperson and primary point of contact for media inquiries, ensuring consistent messaging and brand representation.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key media outlets, industry influencers, and stakeholders to enhance the company's visibility and reputation.
  • Support crisis communication efforts, providing timely and accurate information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with various segments and departments, including marketing, human resources, investor relations, operations and legal, to align communication efforts and ensure consistency in messaging.
  • Work closely with C-level executives to support their visibility plan, providing strategic communication guidance and crafting compelling messages aligned with brand voice.
  • Oversee the creation and dissemination of all internal communication, some press releases, speeches, articles, and other communication materials.
  • Manage and mentor a team of communication professionals, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration and excellence.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and market developments to identify opportunities and challenges, providing strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Measure and analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns, making data-driven adjustments as necessary.
  • Responsible for the overall service quality of Net Promoter Score (NPS) as it relates to internal communication efforts in delivering effective communications to employees.
  • This role requires up to 25% travel (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays.
  • Flexible, hybrid schedule, however, must be able to work in the office up to 5 days per week when needed.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Undergraduate degree with 10+ years of relevant experience in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications Arts or Marketing and/or extensive equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced experience with internal and external communication, preferably in a medium to large-size public corporation.
  • Strong listening, creative thinking, influencing, and relationship-building skills with the ability to align communication initiatives with overall business objectives within in a matrix organization.
  • Proven track record in driving measurable communications results in support of business goals, global brand, and widely recognized executives.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for various audiences.
  • Strong leadership abilities and experience managing a team of communication professionals.
  • Demonstrated expertise in working with news reporters, issues management, crisis communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in leveraging digital and social media platforms for corporate communication purposes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • An understanding of the industry in which the company operates, including its challenges, competitors and trends.
  • Experience within a company in effectively reaching both connected and in-field employees.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Proven record of increasing responsibility within a large global corporate communication or marketing organization.
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships and trust with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience with data and analytics around communication efforts and building an ROI model to prove its value within an organization.
