This position leads the Global Quality Assurance.  This team is accountable for developing, planning, organizing, controlling and supervising all Quality Assurance activities globally for the Irrigation and Tubing division.   In addition, these teams provide 5CC (Core Competencies) support to global irrigation. The candidate will work in close coordination with other divisional quality leaders as well as Irrigation’s global manufacturing engineering team, operations, product engineering, accounting, sales, marketing, and information services to implement global quality initiatives in support of all irrigation manufacturing operations. Candidate must possess the temperament to ensure the lines of communication are strong so as to achieve results through subordinate supervisors. The candidate is responsible for independent decisions and recommendations that are authoritative and impact quality, manufacturing and related activities of the company.  The candidate is responsible for justifying all expenses for capital and projects as well as be an active participant in sourcing decisions.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads the global irrigation quality group, striving for both collaboration and consistency
  • Responsible for developing and implementing an ISO-level quality system for all irrigation sites, globally.
  • Coordinates with quality leaders in other divisions to identify synergies and implement corporate initiatives
  • The ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%.
  • Will have previous leadership experience.  Must be a driver but show balance between inspiration and accountability.
  • A team builder with a focus on breaking-down walls and creating transparency in problem solving through cross-functional teams.

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Oversees and improves the global irrigation quality system including customer complaint tracking, follow-up, and countermeasure execution.
  • Primary accountability for voice-of-the-customer (VOC).
  • Collaborates on new product design; ensuring new products are designed for quality.
  • Leads team to assess and execute automation of processes and systems.
  • Focus on automating documentation management to speed the release of new documents and improve quality of document release.
  • Demonstrates competency in Agile and Lean concepts and methodologies.
  • In charge of all capital requests including creating and leading implementation of a quality plan for every site, including international locations.
  • Ensures global standards are upheld (quality, safety, etc.).
  • Key driver of safety in operations including completion of and inclusion in risk assessments, management of change documentation, and capital appropriation requests.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years of relevant experience or Associates Degree with 9+ years relevant experience or 11+ years of relevant experience.
  • Four (4) years of supervisory experience in an operations-related engineering or quality function in an ISO9000 certified facility.
  • Solid knowledge of and experience with ISO 9001.
  • Ability to lead from a Global perspective while extending individual consideration to each location

  • Lean/Agile Certification or proven implementation experience

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in relevant discipline
  • ASQ certification such as: Certified Manager of Quality /Organizational Excellence, Master Black Belt or Certified Quality Engineer
  • Experience with ISO/TS 16949
  • Familiarity with QMS systems, particularly PTC’s products (Windchill QMS, ThingWorx, etc.)
  • Professional Engineer
  • Experience with working with mechanized irrigation systems
  • AWS (American Welding Society) certification (e.g. Certified Weld Inspector)

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in a plant or maintenance shop setting.  The candidate is regularly required to regularly walk, stand and sit, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings.    Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time.  Travel, both domestic and international is a requirement for this position.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer.  The employee is occasionally required to move about the office and manufacturing plant.  Employee must be able to wear any and all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to steel toe, metatarsal boots, safety glasses, and high-visibility vest.  Candidate must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds in working with boxes, parts, large files, binders, and computer equipment.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. This position may require walking, standing, lifting, stooping, bending, climbing stairs, and kneeling in rare instances.
