The IT Director Data and Analytics will function as a key leader in Valmont’s Information Technology organization. As a leader, the role will be accountable for all matters related to staff and strategy within their organization structure. This role is accountable to ensure systems and data are proactively supported and continuously improved to better serve Valmont’s internal and external stakeholders. This leadership position will require an investment in life-long learning to ensure Valmont retains its competitive advantage and achieves business objectives year over year. This role will also serve as trusted advisor to business stakeholders, and a decision maker supporting both work group and enterprise initiatives.   

Essential Functions:

  • This position reports directly to the Vice President Information Technology and has both direct reports and indirect reports
  • 20% travel both internationally/domestically including overnight stays
  • Develop and Implement data governance strategy, procedures and master data management
  • Implement and manage Data Science and ML ops activities to support business strategy and FP&A activities
  • Mature the data analytics strategy and execution within Valmont Operations
  • Provide leadership and direction around ERP data migration activity
  • Engage with business leadership to develop and deploy enterprise dashboards based on KPIs
  • Lead effort to gain insights from available performance data to find opportunities for increasing customer satisfaction
  • Develop relationships globally to increase collaboration between sales and operations groups and share best practices
  • Partner with business leadership and staff, along with IT leadership and staff to ensure solutions achieve desired outcomes
  • Support timely decision-making and manage escalations related to data quality, transformation, and visualization
  • Actively engage and educate business process owners on solutions, enhancements, and cost optimization opportunities
  • Manage vendor relationships including contract initiation, performance management, contract renewals, and cost management
  • Participate in the Valmont Annual Operating Plan by accurately projecting Expense, Capital, and Staffing budgets
  • Operate within the finalized budget while delivering on commitments to our business and to our employees 
  • Champion participation in our formal processes and seek to improve them based on staff and business stakeholder feedback
  • Participate as needed in project charter creation, project planning, retrospectives, and other key ceremonies for global initiatives across technology platforms
  • Actively participate in talent management and employee engagement initiatives

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • The incumbent must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and utilize various media to clarify business process issues and opportunities and to obtain approval for recommended solutions.
  • Direction is provided by the immediate supervisor and normally consists of relative priority and timing requirements of the assignment, business process requirements and tradeoffs, assigned resources, security and/or performance requirements, interface and technical requirements.  The incumbent is free to coordinate assigned resources to maximize production output and quality, and to develop and implement business systems within the parameters provided and subject to supervisory direction and user acceptance testing and approval.  A high level of initiative and self- motivation is necessary to be successful.
  • Implementation/Improvements of major business systems requires a broad understanding of business problems and the definition and evaluation of alternative solutions.  Solutions must consider feasibility and organizational impacts.  An implementation plan is developed and maintained.  Supervisor is kept informed of progress toward the goal, issues, problems, conflicts and opportunities to help guide the project toward completion.
  • Collaborates with others in the organization focused on data analytics and strategic priorities related to data requirements.
  • Conducts analysis of problems related to system/process issues in order to provide a solution to prevent recurrence.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 9+ years relevant experience or 11+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated subject matter experience  in using an ERP or business system to support a business environment
  • Proven experience in the areas of Sales, Operations Planning, Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Supplier development/management and Materials Management
  • Excellent knowledge of system testing best practices and methodologies
  • Excellent understanding of computer technology as it applies to business systems, software products and process improvements.
  • Demonstrated competency working with an ERP system (QAD) Excellent understanding of computer technology as it applied to business processes
  • Project Management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures
  • High level of initiative and self-motivation
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
  • High degree of flexibility and initiative with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated skill in facilitating cross-functional meetings with senior executives
  • Demonstrated track record in managing teams and working effectively across all functions of the organization
  • Demonstrated competency in SQL programing
  • The ability to work effectively with people at all levels, solve personal conflicts, understand and diagnose the causes of change resistance and initiate corrective action
  • Experience with BI tools
