  • A Brief Summary of This Position:
  • For the Maintenance Lead role within Valmont, we are looking for a highly driven individual to perform and mentor skilled technical work in areas of installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will, while working under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, direct all activities regarding maintenance and facility maintenance operations at their site. This is done within prescribed codes, and according to prescribed procedures, specifications, and drawings.  This Lead role has a wide electromechanical knowledge and high degree of proficiency.

    Essential Lead Functions:   Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.

    • Must be able to perform all job activities related to the employee’s current maintenance classification at a high level
    • Responsible for making sure that all maintenance employees are using and wearing all required PPE for their specific duties
    • Responsible for reporting all injuries that transpire on the shift to the Maintenance Supervisor and  the Safety Manager as soon as possible
    • Responsible for housekeeping and incorporating these functions on a day to day basis for all maintenance employees Housekeeping extends to work areas in the shop, as well as the maintenance area.
    • Understand the goals for their respective department and drive the team to meet or surpass those goals
    • Assist the Maintenance Supervisor to coordinate the maintenance employees to complete repairs and special projects to meet goals within the department and the site
    • Coach and motivate the crew to perform at their highest level
    • Help introduce and drive Lean techniques and methodologies
    • Understand and drive cost reduction efforts within the department and the site
    • Responsible for enforcement of all Valmont policies and procedures within the department
    • Ensure employee engagement and morale within the department, informing supervisor or HR department of any causes for immediate or major concern
    • Manage activities related to daily maintenance scheduling to complete all breakdown repairs in a timely manner
    • Assist Maintenance Supervisor with ordering and tracking of spare parts and working with MRO as needed
    • Establish and enforce quality expectations to meet or exceed the customers’ expectations
    • Promote, institute, and maintain a safe, clean, and hazard free work environment
    • Be responsible for the maintenance of the facility, housekeeping, and equipment during the shift
    • Create corrective work orders, release PM work orders and ensure on time completion
    • Review projects and work assignments for potential hazards and recommend safest ways to complete the job
    • Ensure that maintenance mechanics are following the LOTO provisions of the hazardous energy control program

    Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

    • Must be able to read and write English clearly
    • Strong applied manufacturing mathematical skills
    • Ability to read and interpret blue prints
    • The ability to work assigned schedule to include overtime and weekends when required for business needs
    • Experience with safely operating a forklift in a professional environment
    • A strong working knowledge of precision measurement with a tape measure
    • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel and Word
    • Working knowledge of Valmont’s manufacturing process

    Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

    • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
    • Initiative to resolve issues in a timely manner
    • 2 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing specific role
    • 2 years previous experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
    • The ability to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assurance
    • Training in lean manufacturing processes
    • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

    Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

    Work is performed in a factory setting, with most of the time being spent moving around different areas of manufacturing and shipping areas. The incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, fire, smoke, unstable debris and confined spaces. Environment is fast-paced and demanding most of the time. This position will require long days to support the manufacturing initiative for a multi-site, four shift, seven day a week operation.

    The employee is frequently required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrist rests. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds in working with large files, binders, computer equipment and shop equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
