A Brief Summary of This Position:

Under the direct supervision of the Mast Arms Supervisor, the Mast Arms Lead person will coordinate all activities regarding manufacturing processes of the Mast Arms department to ensure timely delivery of parts to downstream operations while minimizing past due orders. This is done within prescribed codes, and according to prescribed procedures, specifications, and drawings. The Lead will function in all operations of the department on a daily basis, and as a backup lead when necessary. The incumbent is responsible for departmental Safety, Quality and Productivities.

Shift: 2nd shift (Evenings) Monday-Friday 3pm-11pm

Starting Hourly Pay Rate:

$26.72 + $1.00 for shift differential + .75 for Lead allowance

Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years

Essential Functions:

  • Functions in all operations of the department on a daily basis. The incumbent is responsible for the Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Costs metrics associated with the department.

  • Reads daily workloads to determine what parts and shafts are required, and prioritizes according to constraint and shipping buffers

  • Determines what materials are needed, checks materials on hand, and orders any other materials needed from stores

  • Instructs material handler on what material to load and/or unload, which material to return to stores, how to load table to maximize productivity

  • Checks material for grade, thickness, and size while maintaining traceability of product, as required

  • Reads prints, determines tolerances, and checks parts against prints to ensure quality of parts being manufactured. Based on the appearance and quality of parts being produced, makes appropriate adjustments to the processes, such as travel speed, tip size, tip replacement, gas pressures, and other factors as needed to produce the desired quality.

  • Performs all functions associated with the GMAW process, including start-up and shutdown procedures

  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly operator preventive maintenance on specified equipment

  • Communicates problems with equipment or welding operations to lead man, supervisor, and/or maintenance to ensure problem resolution

  • Uses knowledge of the machinery and its characteristics to assist maintenance personnel in maintaining and troubleshooting its system

  • Uses and understand measuring instruments, i.e. tape measure, level, protractor, and micrometer

  • Maintains 5S requirements in assigned areas

  • Maintain compliance with Visual Management System (SIS Boards, 5S Daily Checklists, IPO Checklists, etc.).

  • Is responsible for safety and environmental issues regarding assigned area

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • 1 year experience in a manufacturing setting

  • Basic understanding of Small Parts/Mast Arm workflow

  • 1 year previous leadership experience or applicable team dynamics management

  • Read and write English clearly

  • Basic shop math (multiplication, division, decimals to fractions, fractions to decimals)

  • Able to read O.D. tape and tape measure

  • Ability to prioritize work

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • 1 year welding experience

  • 1 year previous experience operating a forklift

  • The ability to identify and communicate maintenance or product problems to departmental supervision

  • The ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment

  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an outside environment. The incumbent is regularly required to walk for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time.  No travel requirements for this position.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working on the floor. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such PPE. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds in working with large, small parts.

Incumbent will also be exposed to production facilities where specific PPE will be required such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection.  There will also be frequent exposure to outside elements for short periods of time.  Being outside will also expose them to material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.
