A Brief Summary of This Position:

You will execute the division goals through the creation and maintenance of the product strategy and the management of the commercial profitability of the product line. Managing the vision for growth and profitability of the product line requires combining primary and secondary research and the feedback from sales, business development, operations and external market resources.

The Product Line Manager must conduct margin analysis, industry research, and performance measurements to determine product demand, positioning, and profitability. Specific responsibilities include business case justification, market modeling, pricing policy recommendations, competitive analysis, capability analysis, market position analysis, and market intelligence for the new product development team.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage the product plan / strategy to support the divisional strategy
  • Identify the business and operational requirements based on customer needs and market feedback
  • Develop the new product introduction plan based on voice of the customer input and market research
  • Analyze the customer detail and market potential to provide product forecast guidance
  • Develop product branding requirements and collateral marketing materials
  • Analyze the competitive landscape determining market capacity and provide guidance on margins and lead times
  • Provide margin and lead time guidance
  • Provide financial analysis on product line profitability for our customers or projects
  • Work with Business Development team to deploy product plan
  • Analyze bids and forecast to determine win / loss ratios to provide quote strategy by customer type and region
  • Help with the marketing plan development for new product introductions within the product segment
  • Translate the voice of the customer to new product requirements or product enhancements
  • Provide analysis of market share, margins, and competitive landscape to divisional leadership
  • Communicate and train the business development and Salesforce on the product strategy / plan
  • Communicate responses and company positions in response to product specific challenges
  • Communicate the current win / loss opportunity detail to the sales and business development team
  • Guide communication between the customer and the Valmont engineering departments
  • May require up to 50% travel (domestically), including overnight stays

Other Important Details about the Role:

Planning, forecasting and marketing of a product at all stages of the product’s life cycle.  Overseeing the product service, marketing and warranty decisions of the Product line.  Wide variety of duties requiring considerable judgement to plan and work independently. The role may involve devising new methods, modifying or adapting standard work procedures and day-to-day challenges involving day-to-day work conditions. The work can be considered technical and the projects are quite involved. The incumbent needs outstanding judgement, initiative and ingenuity to work independently on complex jobs and communicate details of those jobs effectively to all levels of employees and customers as needed.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s with six (6) years’ related experience, an Associate’s degree with eight (8) years’ relevant experience or ten (10) years relevant experience 
  • Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated product leadership experience
  • Team leadership required for new product development teams, large project coordination, and strategic sales teams
  • Persuasively present complex information in a simple way to executive level audience

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Management, Engineering, Marketing, or related field

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Incumbent will be required to travel primarily to US locations, but some international travel may be required occasionally.  Overnight travel may represent up to approximately 30%. Work is typically performed in an office setting; however, the incumbent may be required to go into the production or shipping/receiving areas or work out in the field.  The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and participate in meetings. The work environment is generally fast-paced and demanding.  While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch. Talking and hearing is required for this role. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.  This position may require the incumbent to work outside and travel during all seasons of the year. As a result the position may require moving about, lifting, stooping, bending, climbing stairs, and kneeling in rare instances.  The incumbent must be able to drive a vehicle, fly in commercial air planes, communicate up and down the organization, and work with individuals from different cultures and backgrounds.
