The Project Engineer position is responsible for providing technical engineering support and project management on a variety of public and private sector projects. The incumbent will be responsible for providing technical designs, engineering support, and project management on a variety of public and private sector projects including water management, industrial wastewater treatment, large water delivery systems, and regulatory permitting/compliance. Our clients include corporate farm operations, food processors, natural resource companies, and state/federal agencies. The Project Engineer will work closely with other Engineers, Geologists, and Soil Scientists under the direction of the Engineering supervisor to develop and complete engineering projects from initial scope to final commissioning. Typical engineering projects include preparation and administration of the following work products; planning documents, cost assessments, technical designs, specifications, engineering reports, permitting documents, and construction related activities. Within our core service areas of water, agriculture, engineering, and environmental, the Project Engineer will largely work on regional water and wastewater related projects. The incumbent will enjoy interacting with a diverse client base; be presented with a wide variety of challenging work; have opportunities to apply innovative and creative solutions; and become a part of a strong team-oriented organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluation, assessment, report preparation, design, permitting, and construction of water-related infrastructure projects;
  • Identify and develop project leads, and assist in preparation of written scopes of work and cost proposals for new projects;
  • Assist other team members by providing engineering-related services as part of larger projects;
  • Communicate to Project Managers and Clients status reports, schedules of completion, project issues, and needed modifications;
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service;
  • Maintain an awareness of market tends and opportunities for Valley services and products;
  • This position reports into the Engineering Supervisor and does not have any direct reports with indirect reports associated with project teams; and
  • This role requires up to 25% travel (domestically), including overnight stays

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Visit clients and project sites;
  • Work in a matrix organization with marketing, sales, accounting, and operations;
  • Assist with the development of new customers, services, and products; which require good interpersonal skills and judgment
  • Maintain positive customer relationships that promote future business

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural, Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience
  • Experience with the use and operation of computer aided drafting programs
  • The ability to obtain professional certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) within four years
  • Ability to perform field activities (e.g., stoop, lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist high, walk, etc.)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to colleagues, clients, and regulators
  • Ability to work well in both a team environment and independently
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple, simultaneous priorities
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Completion of a Certified Project Management Course with professional designation
  • Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Career emphasis in water resources, geotechnical, agriculture, or environmental related fields of study
  • Private consulting experience
