A Brief Summary of This Position:

The Project Manager - Solar is a centralized leader in the North America Solar team, responsible for implementing and executing projects. The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for overall execution, profitability, and customer satisfaction in the assigned market channel. You will work with the Sales, Business Line Management, Engineering, and Global Operations leadership team, within with the Global Generation division and other Valmont teams.

Essential Functions:

• You will report to the Vice President and General Manager - North America Solar and you will have no direct or indirect reports
• We are looking for up to 30% travel (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays
• You will assist the sales team with the development of the total project scope and deliverables and will build a project plan, using this information, and then assemble a team accountable for meeting project deliverables
• You will help define the project schedule, flagging potential risk areas, help with contingency plans and assigning resources
• Lead, training and assessing the assigned team's activities to exceed plan goals of the division. Including:
  • Revenue
  • Gross Profit
  • SCOT

  • Direct & Indirect Expense

• Implement the master project and production schedule, and the long and short-range capacity plan
• Monitor project performance to the agreed upon plan and shipping schedules and recommend corrective action to guarantee a high level of on-time customer shipments
• Respond to and resolve field issues and warranty claims to the satisfaction of the customers and business
• Coordinate with global operations and manufacturing teams to ensure execution to schedule and cost goals
• Responsible for all aspects of ensuring a safe working environment:
  • Shows a commitment to the Valmont Safety Mission Statement and SBO plan
  • Help develop the annual SBO Plan, complete tasks assigned to this position and provide necessary support to have 100% of the plan completed
  • Complete documented site safety audits annually
• Identify and analyze specific problems associated with information flow, data collection, and existing computer systems
• Execute change orders
• Communicate on a regular and discretionary basis, departmental, divisional, and company information to the hourly and salary employees
• Create operational plans and deliver financial results
• Track important project deliverables and develop a project timeline and management plan
• When applicable, develop full scale project plans and associated communications documents
• Administer contract documents and requirements to control liquidated damage impacts
• Forecast material and resource requirements and manage project team members to meet these requirements
• Communicate with customer on impacts to schedule and documents changes internally and externally
• Coordinate the delivery of progress reports, requirement documentation and any presentations
• Determine the frequency and content of status reports for the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas
• Participate in safety audits and meetings

Additionally, they will administer the contract between the customer and Valmont: identifying milestones, managing liquidated damage constraints, and maintaining communication with the customer to define contract deficiencies or successes. They manage all schedule, budget, and resource issues through the completion of the project, including resolving any conflict resolution either internal or external. The SPM will communicate directly with all levels of the Valmont organization and with the customer. You will perform a post-project report detailing lessons learned and best practices and communicate with team. You will also have a broad knowledge of Valmont standards and operational performance of all facilities. You should also have a broad knowledge of departmental and company goals and procedures. As the SPM, you must make on the spot decisions regarding schedule changes, budget changes or resource requirements to assure the success of the project and communicate of those decisions to all team members. Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses necessary to perform job.

Other Important Details about the Role:

• Liaise between the commercial organization and the operation team to ensure that business plans and processes are positioned for success
• Work with all functional roles to increase revenue and profitability for the product line
• Identify business and operational requirements based on customer needs, industry trends, and feedback
• Develop successful product launches together with product marketing and sales
• Conduct project postmortems and create recommendations report for future project successes
• Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management
• Manage project development from beginning to end
• Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support the customer requirements, business goals, and project margin
• Conduct risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies
• Identify important project milestones and develop a project timeline and management plan
• Develop full scale project plans and associated communications documents
• Administer contract documents and requirements to control liquidated damage impacts

You Must Have:

• Bachelor's Degree with 6+ years of relevant experience or Associate's Degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or 10+ years of relevant experience
• The ability to define measurable project goals
• The ability to develop schedules that integrate dependent and independent activities, including start-end time dependencies and time/cost estimates for activities
• The ability to identify potential project schedule risks and cost adherence
• Proficient with MS Office Suite programs
• Valid driver's license and U.S. Passport for international travel

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess :

• Experience in the solar industry, specifically with solar trackers or solar plant construction
• Experience in a manufacturing environment; directly or indirectly
• Experience with or working understanding of quality processes
• Understand contract terms and associated risks
• Understand standard cost accounting methods
• MS Project or other scheduling program experience

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. You are required to sit for extended periods of time, and talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. 30% international and domestic travel requirements for this position including overnight stays. You are frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with multiple files and forms and while working on the computer. You are occasionally required to move about the office. You must use proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. You must occasionally lift and move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Minimum base salary is $84,862 and max is $132,597.
