A Brief Summary of This Position:

We are seeking a Senior Geologist to lead and support projects that help customers develop groundwater supplies and address groundwater quality concerns. Valley geologists provide groundwater technical services for agricultural, commercial, and mining sector clients mainly in the western U.S. with occasional needs on an international basis. Typical projects include groundwater compliance monitoring, contaminant investigations, groundwater supply assessments, and hydrogeologic studies for due diligence and permitting. The successful applicant will enjoy meeting new people and inspire confidence with clients, internal and external, while fostering a strong team working environment. They need to be a self-starter, enjoy mentoring junior staff, and have a passion for solving groundwater challenges.

Essential Functions:

  • Follow industry and Valley standard practices to plan fieldwork, manage projects, and prepare reports
  • Be viewed as a technical expert in hydrogeology
  • Plan and perform groundwater studies, including field work
  • Take responsibility for proposal and report writing, develop sampling/testing plans, data analysis, project management and client management
  • Communicate with prospective and existing clients to understand their needs and concerns
  • Work independently and with multi-disciplined teams to meet project objectives.
  • Manage projects to exceed client expectations for technical work quality, schedules and budgets.
  • Assist with regulatory permitting.
  • This position may require up to 20% traveling, including overnight stay and international travel
  • This position reports to a Principal Engineer and does not have any direct reports

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Geology, Geoscience, Hydrogeology or closely related field  
  • 10+ years of professional geological experience with 5+ years in the environmental field
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license issued by a State Board with ability to obtain reciprocity in other states
  • Project management experience
  • Experience logging boreholes and classifying soils by Unified Soil Classification System
  • Experience installing groundwater monitoring wells and/or water supply wells
  • Experience planning and analyzing aquifer pumping tests to determine aquifer properties
  • Experience with soil and groundwater sampling for contaminant release investigations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Self-starter with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Clearly communicate technical information to colleagues, clients and regulators
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple and simultaneous priorities

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, Hydrogeology or closely related field
  • Licensed Hydrogeologist in Washington or Certified Hydrogeologist in California
  • Completion of a Certified Project Management Course with professional designation
  • Consulting experience

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Most of the position’s tasks are sedentary with occasional physical effort outdoors. Projects may occasionally require overnight travel, typically not exceeding one week. The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, type, draw, and design. Reaching hands and arms above shoulder height while working in the office or out in a field may be required. The employee is occasionally required to stand for extended periods. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Incumbent must have a valid US driver’s license and be willing to drive to the various project sites.
