A Brief Summary of This Position:

Under the direction of the Production Supervisor or Lead, the Small Parts Machine Operator will be responsible for the operation of various machines such as the drill press, iron worker, and saw to fabricate various products of the unit according to prescribed drawings, procedures, specifications, and codes.

Shift: 1st (Days)

Monday-Friday 7am-3pm

Starting Hourly Pay Rate: $19.65

Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years

Essential Functions:

  • Operate ironworker, press, saws, manual drill presses, cutting torch, & grinder as needed

  • Use shop mathematics, including decimals, complex fractions, and simple algebra to lay out parts according to blueprints within the tolerances required

  • Use measuring instruments, such as protractor, framing square, tape measure, tri-square, center finder, angle finder, levels, scribes, calipers, and drill gauges to fabricate various products of the unit.

  • Understand material requirements and specifications as stated on blueprints and drawings

  • Decide through the use of learned solutions the sequence of set ups, operations, and processes within the limitations of recognized methods and procedures for completing work in process according to work schedules and constraint and shipping buffers

  • Coordinate with other personnel in the small parts area to ensure the proper sequence of operations to be performed on specific parts and maintain workloads

  • Moves product throughout the department to various stations

  • Maintain housekeeping in work area, and on all machines used

  • Perform operator preventive maintenance on equipment, and informs supervisor and/or lead man of any breakdowns or damage of equipment or parts

  • Follow safe operating procedures on all equipment

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Must have knowledge of basic shop mathematics, addition, subtraction, fractions, multiplication and decimals

  • Ability to read and decipher blueprints without assistance and use them to properly process scheduled work

  • Ability to make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery

  • Must have at least 6 months machine operating experience in a manufacturing/fabrication environment

  • Must have at least 6 months prior experience using cutting tools and equipment

  • 6 months previous experience driving a forklift in a professional manufacturing environment

  • Must be able to read and write English

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • 1 year machine operating experience in a manufacturing and/or fabrication environment

  • The ability to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assurance

  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills                          

  • Initiative to resolve issues in a timely manner

  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is primarily performed in an indoor shop environment. This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, smoke and confined spaces. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes be worn at all times. The employee must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment. The incumbent must also be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility.

Hazards:

This job requires handling metal objects some of which have sharp edges.  Extreme care and awareness should be taken for all production jobs.  Below are some common hazards that exist for this particular position.  Set up and run of equipment provides the potential for injury through slips, falls, strains, pinch points, tripping hazards, shot blasting equipment, high pressure air nozzles, material handling equipment. Being outside will also expose them to material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.
