Brief Summary: Join our innovative team to design the next generation of solar racking and related products. As a Structural Engineer, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to perform calculations, analysis, testing, and documentation essential for solar racking design. Serving as the subject matter expert, you will ensure compliance with building codes and standards, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge solar tracking products.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct structural design calculations adhering to local building codes
  • Utilize Structural Analysis software for problem-solving and design optimization
  • Prepare design documentation for customer qualification and AHJ review
  • Manage laboratory or field testing as required
  • Participate in technical design review meetings, providing expert input
  • Recommend updates to design procedures as necessary
  • Provide technical support to other departments
  • Up to 10% travel required (domestic/international), including overnight stays
  • Hybrid work schedule with office presence required 2-3 days per week

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • Proficiency in hot-rolled and cold-formed steel design, foundation design, and US building codes
  • Experience in SAP or ETABs, finite element analysis, and programming
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and probability/statistics
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • U.S. passport or ability to obtain one for international travel

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess:

  • Direct experience with Solar Racking Structures, especially solar trackers
  • Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil Structural engineering preferred
  • Familiarity with global building codes, particularly Brazil, Europe, and Italy
  • Knowledge of design standards and test protocols in the solar industry
  • Experience with wind tunnel testing and performance-based engineering
  • Automation of design calculations/processes
  • Experience in developing testing protocols and specifications
  • Knowledge of material specification and manufacturing techniques

The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in Colorado is $84,300.00 - $131,700.00. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Valmont Industries considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope of responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
