A Brief Summary of This Position:

This role as an Individual Contributor serves as a technical sales representative dedicated to enhancing and expanding our presence in Engineering organizations and among our customer base. Furthermore, the position involves acquiring in-depth knowledge of new products to effectively pinpoint opportunities in the market and enhance customer support. The ideal candidate possesses product expertise in short-span bridge structures, complemented by a background in structural engineering to ensure a comprehensive understanding of product infrastructure. Additionally, the individual is well-versed in the procurement processes of products within the transportation and construction marketplace.

Essential Functions:  

• Directly reporting to the Business Development Director for U-BEAMTM Bridge Systems, this position does not oversee any direct or indirect reports.

• Involves up to 50% domestic travel, including overnight stays, with the requirement for travel initially set at approximately 30% and the possibility of an increase of up to 50%, depending on business demands and the employee's location.

• Cultivates relationships with key engineering firms and clients.

• Offers customer specification support to strategically position Valmont for future quotation and order successes.

• Illustrates how our products surpass those of competitors.

• Recommends modifications or adjustments to products or customer documents to align with customer needs.

• Generates weekly reports detailing activities and opportunities within specified focus areas.

• Serves as a technical resource for both internal and external customer bases.

• Provides engineering assistance in crafting customer specifications.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Desired bachelor’s degree, coupled with over 6 years of pertinent experience in the transportation industry.
  • Proven professional background in deciphering customer specifications, understanding customer needs, and addressing market/sales requirements.
  • Previous track record of presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences, including engineers.
  • Proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret technical procedures and government regulations.
  • This position requires approximately 30% domestic travel, with the potential for travel to increase up to 50%, contingent upon business demands and the employee's location.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in structural engineering.
  • Possession of a PE (Professional Engineer) Certification.
  • Prior familiarity with sales trends and pertinent knowledge in the bridge industry.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting.  The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings.    The environment is fast-paced and demanding most of the time. This position requires around 30% domestic travel, but travel can be up to 50% based on business needs and employee location.  The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer.  The employee is occasionally required to move about the office.  Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrist rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Minimum base of $83,700 and max of $136,575.
