Compensation: $24.88/hour ($22.88 base pay + $2 shift differential)

Shift: 2nd, Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

A Brief Summary of This Position

The Chemical Process Tank Technician A is a key contributor responsible for overseeing galvanizing equipment and fluids to ensure the safe and efficient operation of galvanizing processes, resulting in high-quality galvanized products. In this role, the incumbent will meticulously monitor and adjust flow rates to optimize the production of iron and zinc sulfate crystals. Duties also encompass the timely leveling and replacement of crystal bags and filters, along with performing minor maintenance tasks on the galvanizing process tanks.This position involves adding acid, maintaining fluid levels, and regulating temperatures within the galvanizing process tanks. The Chemical Process Tank Technician A must exhibit a keen attention to detail throughout their responsibilities. Additionally, the operator will operate the molten zinc recovery (MZR) machine under guidance and oversee the monitoring of the reverse osmosis (RO) system. Beyond core responsibilities, the incumbent will actively contribute to various tasks, including assisting in loading the crystal trailer, conducting washdowns of process tanks, upkeep of the dryer area, and maintenance of areas beneath the process tanks. General plant cleanup and housekeeping, along with the safe utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including the completion of a respirator fit test per OSHA standards, are integral aspects of this role. Compliance with standards may necessitate the trimming or removal of facial hair that interferes with the respirator seal. This position requires a commitment to operational excellence, safety protocols, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor and adjusts galvanized equipment and fluid flow rates.
  • Adds acid, maintains fluid levels and regulates temperatures in the galvanizing processing tanks.
  • Adds nickel, Bismuth and aluminum to the kettle; monitors the RO system.
  • Operates transfer pumps and perform minor maintenance using tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and cutting tools.  
  • Operates forklift (up to 25k pound capacity) and overhead bridge crane.
  • Performs repairs on process piping, steam lines, and process tank systems.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots deficiencies with steam heating system and process piping.
  • Works in a safe and detail-oriented manner throughout the shift.
  • Communicates problems or needs to departmental supervision promptly.

Important Details about the Role:

  • Supports Material Handler duties, including wiring small to medium-sized parts, handling chains and ropes for steel bundles, and manually moving steel pieces within the plant and yard.
  • Works in areas with exposure to sulfuric acid.
  • Contributes to general plant cleanup and housekeeping.
  • Assists the maintenance department in various tasks.
  • Loads bulk trailers for the outgoing shipment of process waste.
  • Utilizes a forklift and operates hand tools, electrical drills, saws, and pneumatic tools.
  • Reports directly to the Coatings Maintenance Manager.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Willingness to work one to two shifts of overtime per week.
  • Basic understanding of math and arithmetic functions.
  • Ability to read and interpret charts, tables, flow diagrams, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Capable of standing and/or walking for up to 95% of the shift.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting of up to 20 pounds.
  • Strong professional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Keen attention to detail and adherence to work instructions.
  • High safety awareness, including the recognition of hazardous substances and knowledge of employee responsibilities for chemical safety.
  • Proficient use of Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • One (1) year of experience operating hand and / or power tools
  • One (1) year of experience with overhead crane operations
  • Prior experience with on-the-job troubleshooting
