Essential Functions

  • Communicate effectively with your supervisor & shift regarding workload, problems or issues on the shift, safety items, maintenance issues, goals and progress with respect to the goals, results of prior day, etc.
  • Be responsible for making sure all employees maintain proper PPE on the shop floor & enforce Valmont’s Safety policies & procedures at all times. Lead by example.
  • Be knowledgeable of shop goals & keep goal posted for your department. Keep your team on track with goals
  • Help introduce and drive LEAN techniques and methodologies
  • Enforce company policies and procedures, including STOP work authority
  • Use GMAW/FCAW/SAW process
  • Frequently pushes, lifts, and pulls up to 50 pounds.
  • Read and interprets drawings to determine parts needed for pole assembly.
  • Use measuring tape, levels, squares, and angle finders to measure distances and angles. Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides feet, inches, fractions, and decimals. Uses table to convert fractions to decimals, and decimals to fractions.
  • Work in confined areas at various locations of the Large Pole assembly line as necessary to accurately measure and assemble components described above. Move under, around, and over poles as necessary, to get into proper position to assemble pole assembly.
  • Use motorized grinders, motorized buffers, stone grinders, and drills to help assemble.
  • Use overhead cranes, straddle truck, and fork truck to move product in and out of the shop.
  • Ensure employee engagement and morale within the Department, informing Supervisor or HR Department of any causes for immediate or major concern.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read and write English clearly
  • Strong applied manufacturing mathematical skills
  • Must pass SAW/FCAW/GMAW weld test and maintain certification
  • The ability to work assigned schedule to include overtime and weekends when required for business needs
  • Experience with safely operating a forklift in a professional environment
  • A strong working knowledge of precision measurement with a tape measure
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Working knowledge of Valmont’s Manufacturing process
  • The ability to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assurance
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Highly qualified candidates will also possess:

  • Associate’s degree with coursework in Industrial Manufacturing or related field
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Initiative to resolve issues in a timely manner
  • 2 years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing specific role
  • 2 years previous experience working in an assembly environment
  • 2 years previous experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • Training in Lean Manufacturing processes
