A Brief Summary of This Position:
Valmont is seeking a highly motivated individual who seeks to innovate and improve business performance within various engineering environments in a highly matrixed environment. The Senior Solutions Engineer will operate at a strategic level with an entrepreneurial attitude and possess the necessary planning, selling (internal and external), and delivery and support skills to deliver complex programs to mid and upper management levels focusing on the engineering and drafting functional areas. This position is accountable for overseeing the day-to-day management and leadership of engineering platforms and systems including but not limited to Product Lifecycle management (PLM), Design Automation (DA) and Engineering analysis and calculation systems. This role will own the implementation and technical governance to meet or exceed user expectations in terms of on time delivery performance and solution completeness objectives. This position is also responsible for ensuring industry’s best practices are followed and provides technical consultation and support in the development and implementation of these tools. The ideal candidate will lead and manage implementations and is responsible for reliable consulting support using internal resources and/or via third party strategic service providers and contractors.

Essential Functions:
- This position reports to the Manager – IT Support and has no direct or indirect reports.
- Up to 20% of travel, domestic and international with overnight stays is required.
- Develop, socialize, and lead engineering IT Vision aligning to the corporate IT simplification and standardization strategy.
- Lead end-to-end PLM Windchill projects, including strategy definition, solution design, configuration/customization, CAD/ERP integrations, data migration, upgrades, and performance optimization.
- Define and execute the enterprise PLM roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives, digital transformation initiatives, and global harmonization strategies.
- Oversee Windchill architecture, module implementations (ProjectLink, MPMLink, PartsLink), and enforce PLM governance, security, and compliance standards (ITAR, export control, ISO).
- Drive multi-site adoption and change management strategies to ensure successful user engagement and long-term sustainability of PLM solutions.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and IT leaders to maximize PLM value and enable digital thread/twin capabilities.
- Manage vendor relationships for PLM/Windchill platforms, and third party implementors to deliver sustainable, scalable, and secure solutions that drive value to the organization
- Ensure system resilience, including backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies for PLM environments.
- Lead business requirement gathering sessions and educate our business subject matter experts on engineering platforms and system with best practices and industry practices.
- Must be able to seek global optimization opportunities across multiple divisions and sponsor standard work processes across them and within various engineering value streams.
- Ability to understand the need for technology and application consolidation with proven experience in this area.
- Accountable for Engineering individual programs and project deliveries. Support the IT project initiatives and collaborate with the PMO team.
- Responsible in simplifying our technology footprint globally and across divisions and enforcing this behavior with our Business team and the Business Partners.
- Assure scalability of solutions. Solutions that are selected must scale to our global needs both in functionality and capability.
- Support the Business Partners in their quest for business unit optimization.
- Be consultative and entrepreneurial and drive business solutions to real problems before the business brings them to us.
- Collaborate with all Business Partners to understand the individual divisional and product line needs. Integrate themselves as part of our business community across all product lines and corporate functions.
- Responsible for the decommissioning of redundant, non-strategic and obsolete applications.
- Provide learning opportunities about their value stream and processes/applications of coverage to the Business Partners and the businesses.
- Architect solutions that can be adapted globally with an understanding of general business requirements and market trends in the areas of focus for Valmont.
Other Important Details about the Role:
The successful candidate has successfully managed and implemented PLM and Engineering technologies and business programs while supporting rationalization efforts with global organizations in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, and North America. The candidate has broad experience in leveraging modern approaches (e.g., agile, design thinking) to streamline operational processes and generate business benefits through an executable strategy. Ideally the candidate is well versed in configuration management, product lifecycle management and design automation for agriculture, energy, industrial, IM&C, and/or distribution industries where his/her efforts have resulted in cost savings, high ROIs, and improved operational efficiencies. This position plays an integral role in application consolidation strategy and achieving the digital transformation goals maintaining higher levels of business user satisfaction. Collaborates with internal technology groups to ensure that implemented engineering technical solutions align with the company's overall objectives and IT vision. The following is expected:

- Manage expectations with internal stakeholders and external users.
- Inform key product stakeholders including company leadership of current and emerging market trends and representative to customer feedback.
- Build short and long-term strategic roadmaps for all engineering systems architecture.
- Develop team members to embrace new technologies and broaden skillsets to enable future transformational initiatives.
- Circulate technical roadmaps that align IT priorities with business partner needs.
- Demonstrate digital opportunities and collaborate with internal innovation teams.
- Develop and maintain policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure that a consistent application support framework is applied across the company.
- Develop application and infrastructure rationalization framework to reduce technical debt.
- Remain relevant and knowledgeable on engineering system frameworks.
- Support the design and modeling of tactical architectures for the delivery, development, and support of projects.
- Manage and facilitate change review board/council to evaluate application changes impact on production environment.
- Monitor new technological advances in application support and information technologies.
- Enable Devops model to deploy enhancements and minor bug fixes to production environment.
- Collaborate with Information Security to ensure architecture aligns with security strategy and policies.
- Collaborate with other technical teams and developers to provide a consensus-based scalable and adaptable application support solution.
- Remain active in external networks to proactively integrate new technologies, as business needs change.
- Actively participate in the development of the functional area/digital global strategy.
- Maintain proficiency in Agile development methodologies and demonstrate understanding of the SCRUM Master role.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate
- Preferred Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, Business Management with 7+ years relevant experience, Associates Degree with 9+ years’ relevant experience or 11+ years’ relevant experience.
- 7+ years of engineering platform experience and subject matter expertise in the engineering ecosystem (PLM, Windchill, CPQ, CAD, Engineering Analysis).
- 7+ years of PLM Windchill implementation experience in global, multi-site environments.
- Deep knowledge of Windchill architecture, modules, and PLM governance standards.
- Proven change management experience in PLM enterprise adoption.
- Familiarity with ACD (Automated Configuration Design) or similar rules-based engineering automation tools.
- Demonstrated leadership in stakeholder engagement across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and IT, while mentoring PLM teams to build internal capability.
- Strong background in DR planning and PLM system resilience.
- 5+ years of global IT experience.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Highly motivated, disciplined, and self-directed with a commitment to excellence.
- Familiarity with Scrum/Agile/ Lean Startup methodologies. Experience working in a rapid Five or more years of application support or project leadership experience.
- Experience building application teams.
- Experience in designing, integrating, and managing complex infrastructure solutions.
