Job Summary:
The Shipper B position will load and unload trailers or gather customer orders for shipment without direct supervision efficiently. Counts and paperwork must be accurate. Load trailers from the beginning to end process. The equipment must be cared for and maintained while being used in a safe and efficient manner. The finish or coating of the product loaded must be watched to ensure that the customer receives a quality product. When loading or unloading this position will normally be assigned to a crew with one other employee.
• Responds in a positive fashion to the direction of a shift supervisor or lead, participating in departmental/cell team functions
• May need to operate the following equipment in a safe and efficient manner: forklift, Straddle Truck, Shag Trucks, Cranes, hand and air driven banding and crimping tools, lift tables, small hand tools, weigh scales, air driven staple/nail guns, computers.
• Maintains housekeeping and safety standards
• Demonstrates effective and proper communication skills, being a willing and effective team player
• Responsible for safety, productivity, quality, and personal behavior
• Work varying hours as required for business needs
• Must be able to perform all Shipper A functions before starting the position.
• Must be able to build load to meet customer requirements, State DOT requirements (Heights, widths, weights, Load configuration, and overhangs on trailers.)
• Must be familiar with loading techniques (to efficiently load flatbed trailers, closed trailers, (LTL, Curtain) containers and the preparation of crates and packages for shipment.
• Must be able to build loads to standard processes(intercompany, LTG, Musco, Utility, Com, Small Cell, container loads)
• Any other duties/responsibilities/tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Basic Qualifications:
• Standing, stooping, pushing, pulling, climbing, lifting and walking are required 90% of the time.
• Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions. (Heat, cold, etc…)
• Ability to accurately read part numbers on material and move tags, shipping documents, inventory logs.
• Responsible for the Care and handling of the equipment used and the product loaded.
• Responsible for the safety of others working in the area and him or herself.
• Trailers must be loaded in a safe manner for over the road hauling.
• Trailers must be properly tied down for hauling to the yard. (ie. Overall bands, side to side bands)
• Ability to lead and help train the shipper A to help produce accurate counts and paperwork
• Ability to make mathematical calculation in preparing product for loading and load orientation on flatbeds, LTL’s trailer, or Shipping containers.
• Ability to bend and pivot as well as lift, push, and pull objects weighing 50 pounds through the shift.
• Must possess acceptable work history and attendance record.

• Knowledge of Valmont’s quality procedures, standards, and practices.
