  • This position will supervise and coordinate the day-to-day activities of all receiving, picking/packing and shipping operation. 
  • Other responsibilities will include supervising and training all hourly personnel, productivity and quality goals, maintaining safety programs and administering company policies.
  • Oversee flow and completion of all assigned jobs through the shipping and receiving process
  • Distribute and receive reports, forms and other records to appropriate personnel. 
  • Check and track status of shortage parts by working directly with purchasing and/or steel shop/galvanizers.  Ensure that all parties are kept informed daily on any schedule changes that will affect delivery promises.
  • Provide training to personnel requiring individual assistance and or instruction on operations.  Assign work based upon individual capabilities.  Ensure cross training.
  • Ensure that company practices are executed and personnel relations are maintained. 
  • Recommend disciplinary actions as necessary.  Provide feedback to Operations Manager regarding employee performance. 
  • Monitor Valmont safety standards to ensure compliance with required standards and recommend any changes and explore new programs. 
  • Ensure work area and equipment is maintained in a clean and orderly condition.  Detect and report improper, faulty or defective equipment and materials to appropriate parties.
  • Make recommendations for ordering equipment and supplies to run the department in an efficient manner.  Utilize the computer system to determine availability of necessary products or supplies.
  • As requested by manager, participate in interviewing candidates for employment.  
  • Must be able to read prints to identify materials and components.
  • Interpersonal skills are expected to be positive and supportive of co-workers and the Company.
  • Comply with Company’s attendance policy by reviewing and updating timekeeping records for all direct reports. 
  • Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to multitask and have the ability to manage shifting priorities  and demands.
  • Other functions as needed
  • Operate up to a 15,000 pound forklift and move material up to 40 foot in length
  • Read blueprints accurately to identify material and components
  • Load material onto trucks
  • Maintain material traceability both inside the shop and outside in the yard
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work both in a non-temperature-controlled environment and outdoors.
  • Assist with cycle counts
  • Enter data into computer software, as needed
  • Transport parts and material to correct location
  • Identify and label material with correct information and place into inventory
  • Verify counts, measurements and material information for accuracy
  • Rotate stock and/or replenish overflow
  • Stack, sort and stock parts
  • Unload material from trucks to stage in outside yard and/or inside shop
  • Other duties as required and/or assigned.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Solid understanding of transportation function both to vendors as well as to customers
  • Strong customer communication skills
  • Strong math and print reading skills
  • High School Diploma or GED with higher education preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience working in a Shipping/Receiving environment
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Data entry computer skills and knowledge required
  • Ability to read and work with prints, drawings and work documents
  • Ability to accurately take measurements using close tolerance measuring instruments
  • The ability to collaborate in a team environment with a diverse group of people.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment and follow facility safety regulations.
  • Maintain a safe and productive working environment.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • 3 – 5  years of experience in shipping/receiving position.
  • 2 years plus of supervisor experience
  • The ability to communicate and interact with all stakeholders in a positive manner
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times.
