Job Summary:

Welds metal parts with gas welding equipment as specified by layout, welding diagram, or work order by performing the following duties. The welder reads the work order and positions parts in jigs or fixtures on bench/floor or clamps parts together along layout marks. When not working in the bearing or swivel cell, the employee connects regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders and welding torch. The regulator is then turned on to activate the flow of gases; the torch is lit, adjusting gas mixture and pressure to obtain the desired level of flame. Holding the torch at the proper angle to metal, the welder guides it along the weld joint. The weld needs to be examined for bead size and other specifications. The welder lays out, positions and tack welds the pieces. Excess weld, slag or spatter is scraped prior to cleaning and degreasing the part. Operates automated welding equipment in the area and makes necessary adjustments to ensure proper blueprints specifications are met.  Assists on any set up required for a specific job. The incumbent needs to be able to make an accurate accounting of labor, move tags, number of parts produced as well as providing all necessary quality checks. Some welders that are qualified to operate a forklift may be called upon to do so. All welders, regardless of their assigned cell, perform 5S tasks and other housekeeping tasks. On-site attendance is mandatory for this position.
