A Brief Summary of This Position

The Production Machinist is responsible for operating CNC machining equipment and robotic work cells to machine parts from raw materials and castings. Additional responsibilities include conducting frequent quality checks, performing routine maintenance, and using the computer to report production and other information as needed.  This individual performer position reports to the Operations Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Operate computer numerical controlled machines and robotic cells to machine parts from raw materials and castings
  • Operate a robotic or automated welding cell
  • Perform in process quality checks using micrometers, calipers, dial gages, indicators, optical comparators, other gages, and coordinate measuring equipment
  • Perform TPM checks and other minor routine maintenance before operating equipment
  • Use computer system to report production and other information as required
  • Perform daily, weekly and periodic 5S tasks
  • Use and maintain KANBAN system for scheduling production and maintaining material flow
  • Work in a safe manner following all company safety rules and guidelines
  • Participates on lean improvement and other teams projects as required
  • Works under the supervision and guidance of the department supervisor and/or lead person

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • 1-3 years relevant work experience
  • Basic math to calculate offsets /adjustments for machining operations and fill out production reports
  • Working knowledge of the English language required to be able to communicate orally and in writing
  • The ability to read technical manuals and instructions in English
  • The ability to use a computer to enter production data, perform time keeping functions, and interface with machines, robot controllers and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines)
  • The ability to use hand-held measuring tools correctly, accurately and be able to obtain the readings repeatedly
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints and other design drawings
  • The ability to read print as small as 1/16 of an inch
  • The ability to stand and move about the plant 95% of the shift
  • The ability to lift, push and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift
  • The ability to bend and pivot repeatedly throughout the shift
  • The ability to work a different shift occasionally if called upon to do so for business needs
  • A good knowledge of shop safety practices
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, planning, communication, and follow-through skills
  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy while working in a fast paced environment with multiple distractions
  • Attention to processes and equipment operation is required
  • Basic understanding of common machining operations including; milling, drilling, turning, tapping, and sawing
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • CNC machining experience in a production environment
  • Robotics operations experience
  • Coordinate measuring machine experience
  • Production MIG welding experience
