Performs highly skilled and technical work in areas of installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, plant equipment and facilities with a wide knowledge and high degree of proficiency. The Electronic Technician installs the power distribution equipment including both low and high voltage systems. The layout, assembly procedures and problems are reviewed with the Manufacturing Engineers and Maintenance Manager. Sketches need to be drawn to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic unit. The Electronic Technician installs all types of distribution equipment including switch gear, I lines, busways, disconnects, conduits and cables in accordance with the UL and National Electric code. The technician recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance. The employee sets up standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production models. The Electronic Technician adjusts, calibrates, aligns and modifies circuitry and components while recording the effects on the unit performance. The technician reports and develops charts graphs and schematics to describe and illustrate the system’s operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications and functional limitations. The employee checks how new equipment is functioning to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions. The incumbent performs minor electrical functions which include installation and repair of lighting, repair of small fixtures, appliances, welders, wire feeds and motors, changing fuses as well as general 5S duties. The incumbent performs electrical troubleshooting and repair on all plant and production equipment as well as complicated magnetic circuits. Our Electrical Technicians perform pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical troubleshooting when it relates to electrical problems. Some of the equipment that is serviced by the Electronic Technicians are cranes, lathes, drills, presses, shears, high-frequency induction equipment, numerical-control lathe and general distribution equipment. There are rare cases in which Valmont’s Electronic Technicians need to design and install controllers and control equipment or modify existing equipment. The Electronic Technicians assist the Electrical Assembly personnel in repairing test harnesses and text fixtures as well as interpreting engineering production drawings and schematics. Performs preventative maintenance on all plant equipment.

Basic Qualifications:

•          An Associate degree/College diploma or six years of related work experience

•          A working knowledge of AC and DC circuits

•          Experience troubleshooting electronic circuit boards

•          Professional work experience using volt, ohm and amp meters

•          The ability to use e-mail

•          The ability to recognize and work with voltage and current tranducers

•          Familiarity with chip technology, basic semiconductor materials, thermistors, pressure sensors, photoelectric sensors and seven-segment displays

•          Experience reading and interpreting blueprints or process sheets in a professional environment

•          The availability for 24/7 emergency responses and to work over ten hours a week in overtime when required for business needs

Additional Qualifications:

•          Practical and theoretical skills to maintain standard to state-of-the-art industrial equipment safely and efficiently

•          The ability to calculate resistor and capacitor networks

•          An understanding of resistor-capacitor networks, SCRs (silicon-controlled rectifier), thyistors and gate turn-off thyristors

•          The ability to perform work safely with little to no supervision

•          Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
