How you will contribute

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Seam Welder Operator position in the Global Engineered Support Structures division’s Midsize department. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will operate the Sub Arc Seam Welder to weld the seams of steel shafts. Additionally, you will…

  • Load steel shafts via the conveyor into Sub Arc Seam Welder or Hybrid Laser Arc Welder
  • Machine weld the entire seem of steel shaft using the Sub Arc Seam Welder or Hybrid Laser Arc Welder to make a steel pole
  • Monitor the quality of incoming steel shafts and determine when material is substandard
  • Operate a straightener to straighten the shafts after welding
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments to ensure incoming material and to verify that finished product meets specifications

What it takes

Required Qualifications

  • The ability to accurately read a tape measure
  • The ability to pass an American Welding Society (AWS) welder operator qualification test for submerged arc welding (SAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and Hybrid Laser Arc Welding (HLAW)
  • The ability to setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment without difficulty
  • The ability to make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery
  • The ability to read and decipher blue prints and flat sheets without assistance and use them to properly weld scheduled work

Highly qualified candidates will also possess:

  • AWS certified welder operator qualification for both SAW and GMAW processes
  • One year of previous experience in a professional welding position
  • Experience with PLC controlled machinery
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
